Our Company

Meet Our Herd

Our journey into the world of Goatscaping began with Zane’s first two goats, Chole and Princess. Drawn to their unique personalities and the natural benefits they brought to land management. Zane quickly developed a love for these incredible animals. What started as a small herd soon grew into a thriving team as Zane continued to expand, welcoming new goats to help meet the needs of a growing client base. Today, Zane still takes great pride in caring for each member of the herd, finding joy in their quirks and the difference they make in every project. His dedication to growing and nurturing the herd is at our company’s core, as we bring eco-friendly land management to properties across the region.

At the heart of our Goatscaping service is our incredible herd of goats and loyal guardians, two white Pyrenees dogs named Merry and Denali. Each goat in our herd brings a unique personality and skills to the job, making them ideally suited for clearing everything from invasive plants to dense brush. Our goats are natural browsers, which means they prefer shrubs, vines, and weeds, leaving the grasses intact and landscapes refreshed. They enjoy munching on plants like kudzu, poison ivy, and ragweed, helping to restore balance to your property sustainably.

Our Pyrenees dogs, Merry and Denali, are more than protective companions. Known for their gentle yet vigilant nature, these loyal guardians closely watch the herd, ensuring their safety as they graze. Their strong instincts and calm demeanor create a secure environment that allows our goats to focus on what they do best: clearing and revitalizing the land.

Each member of our herd is a valued part of the team, from the experienced “lead goats” like Hoss (our first breeder billy on the farm), who lead the charge on tougher terrain, to the younger, energetic goats eager to explore new areas. Together, they make an efficient and eco-friendly team, transforming properties and leaving behind a landscape ready to thrive.

Happy to announce that at the beginning of 2025, our does gave birth to more doelings and bucklings.

Who We Are

Where do the goats reside?

The goats live on an 88-acre farm with a herd of Black Angus cows, cats, dogs, and chickens. The farm consists of various landscapes, including pastures, woodlands, riverbanks, gullies, and hilly terrain.

Which goats are best friends?

Snowy and Suzy; Beatrice and Buttercup; Venado and Casper; Shelby and McClaren; Adeline and Whitney; Bert and Ernie; Frankenstein and VanGosh; Hoss and Little Joe; Chip and Dale; Lily and Millie; Dottie and Ginger.

What inspired you to start this Goatscaping business?

I wanted to give the goats I had an alternative to the slaughter barn. Since most of my goats were considered meat goats (as opposed to dairy goats), the slaughter barn was their most likely destination. However, now, with goat scaping, even the wethers (castrated males) have a purpose.

What is the mission or main goal of the company?

Eco Grazers is dedicated to providing an environmentally friendly land-clearing solution through goat grazing. We aim to promote sustainable land management while caring for our animals and supporting our community’s ecological health. We strive to create a greener, more natural way to maintain landscapes one grazing animal at a time.

What are the core values that guide your work?

At the heart of our business lies a commitment to stewardship, which encompasses the well-being and welfare of our animals, the health of the land, our families, and our communities. We believe in nurturing and caring for our animals, ensuring that they lead happy and fulfilling lives, as they are an integral part of our mission. Our stewardship extends to the land where we practice sustainable methods that promote its vitality, preserving it for future generations. Additionally, we prioritize the well-being of our families and surrounding communities, fostering connections and supporting local initiatives. These core values guide our actions and decisions, creating a harmonious balance between our responsibilities to the animals, the environment, and the people we serve.

How would you describe your team’s experience and expertise?

Eco Grazers is comprised of a small, dedicated team of individuals with decades of agricultural and animal husbandry experience combined with farming/agriculture. Most team members were raised on working farms, while others have spent significant time volunteering and caring for animals from a young age.

How has the company grown or changed since it began?

In less than 3 years, the company transformed from a modest venture of a few goats and small land-clearing projects for family and friends into a thriving full-time operation. Initially focused on providing sustainable land management solutions, the business quickly gained recognition for its eco-friendly approach to clearing overgrown areas. As word spread, demand grew, prompting the expansion of over 60 goats, now employed for land maintenance across various residential and commercial properties throughout North Carolina. The company has successfully established a diverse customer base, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and effective land management, ultimately turning a small-scale hobby into a flourishing enterprise.

How do you approach relationships with your clients?

Eco Grazers builds strong, collaborative client relationships by emphasizing transparency, communication, and education. The approach begins with a thorough consultation to understand each property owner’s specific needs and goals, ensuring that the land-clearing process aligns with their vision. Throughout the project, Eco Grazers maintains open lines of communication, providing updates on progress and addressing any concerns. They educate the clients about the benefits of using goats for vegetation management, such as traditional methods’ environmental advantages and cost-effectiveness. After completing the job, follow-up integrations help reinforce the relationship, allowing clients to share their experiences and feedback. This client-centered approach fosters trust and loyalty, encouraging referral and repeat business while promoting a shared commitment to sustainable land management practices.

How We're Different

At Eco Grazers, we’re proud to be a locally owned business rooted in the community where we were born and raised—not a national chain. Our commitment to personalized, eco-friendly service distinguishes us from other Goatscaping companies. Each property we work on is unique, so we don’t believe in a “one size fits all” solution. The owner, Zane, personally meets with every client, providing an in-person estimate to assess the land and understand your goals. We’ll travel up to two hours to see your property firsthand with no extra cost before putting a plan into motion, ensuring you receive a tailored approach designed just for you. If your property is outside of that radius, we will subtract the cost of travel for our in-person estimate from the project cost if you decide to move forward.

Unlike larger companies, Zane lives with and cares for each of his goats and two Pyrenees dogs, providing them with personal attention and dedication. This hands-on approach means you’re working with someone who truly knows and values his herd, which translates into a better experience for our clients and a healthier environment for the animals.

Our commitment to quality doesn’t stop with the goats. For properties with difficult-to-reach areas, Zane and his team ensure that every spot is thoroughly cleaned before the job is complete. Depending on the size and location of the project, we can even install solar-powered cameras to keep an eye on the goats in real-time, so you have peace of mind throughout the process. And because we’re committed to sustainability, we use solar-powered electric fencing to keep the goats safely within designated areas, meaning you do not need to provide electricity.

With Eco Grazers, you get a team that values personal connections, local roots, and tailored solutions for every project. We care for our goats and clients equally, ensuring each Goatscaping project is handled with expertise, compassion, and respect for the environment.
