About us
A working herd, run by the people who own it.
Eco Grazers started in 2023 with two goats and grew into a full-time vegetation-management operation of more than a hundred head, based in Elkin and working across central and western North Carolina.
Our story
It started with Chloe and Princess.
Zane's first two goats weren't a business plan. They were animals he liked, on ground that needed clearing, doing a job nobody had asked them to do. Most of the goats he had were meat goats, and the honest alternative in front of them was the slaughter barn. Grazing gave them a different purpose — including the wethers, who otherwise have none.
Small jobs for family and friends turned into paying work, and paying work turned into a herd. Inside three years it grew from a handful of animals to more than a hundred head running residential and commercial projects across North Carolina.
Zane still cares for every animal personally and still runs the grazing side of every project. When you get an estimate from Eco Grazers, it comes from people who work with this herd every day — not a sales rep reading off a rate sheet.
The background behind it
Animal science training at Wilkes Community College, and a team drawn from working farms — decades of combined agricultural and animal-husbandry experience between them. That matters more than it sounds: the difference between a herd that clears ground and a herd that gets sick, escapes or under-performs is entirely husbandry.

Jennifer Joy
Customer Relations & Project Manager
Jennifer handles the phone, the scheduling and the project side — she's who most customers deal with from first call to finished job. If you want to know when we can be there, what the plan is, or where things stand mid-project, she's the one with the answer.
Zane Cooper
Owner & Herd Manager
Zane owns the herd and runs the grazing side — animal care, husbandry, containment, and the judgement calls about what a piece of ground actually needs. Animal science training at Wilkes Community College, and he lives with these animals every day of the year.
Meet the herd
A hundred-plus head, two guardians, one farm.
Between projects the herd lives on an 88-acre farm alongside Black Angus cattle, chickens, cats and dogs — pasture, woodland, riverbank, gullies and hill ground. They're not stored; they're kept.
About the dogs
Merry and Denali are Great Pyrenees — livestock guardian dogs, not pets brought along for company. They live with the herd, and on projects where predator pressure or isolation calls for it, they go inside the fencing and stay with the goats around the clock. Their presence is a large part of why we can leave animals on a remote site overnight with confidence.
Logistics
We haul our own herd.
A hundred-plus goats don't arrive in a pickup bed. Livestock trailer, fencing, solar equipment and guardian dogs come as one operation — which is why we can section a large property and keep moving instead of stopping between phases.

Someone walks your property
Estimates are done in person, not off a satellite photo. We look at the terrain, the access and what's actually growing before we put a number on it.
Locally owned, not a franchise
One herd, one operation, based in Elkin. No call center, no regional manager, no national rate card applied to a property nobody has seen.
The animals come first
Welfare drives scheduling, stocking density and whether we take a job at all. A herd worked past its limit does worse work and doesn't last.
