Goatscaping in Winston-Salem.
About an hour from our farm in Elkin — one of the areas we work most, and one where the terrain suits grazing unusually well.
Why grazing fits Winston-Salem properties
A lot of the residential ground in and around Winston-Salem is exactly the kind grazing was made for: wooded lots with steep drops behind the house, creek and branch buffers you can't spray near, and older neighborhoods where English ivy and honeysuckle have had thirty years to establish themselves.
The Salem Creek and Muddy Creek corridors, the wooded edges through the western suburbs, and the ravine lots common in the older parts of the city all share the same problem — the vegetation is on ground a machine can't safely work, and it's close enough to water or houses that herbicide is a hard sell.
What we're usually called for here
- English ivy pulling down mature hardwoods on established residential lots
- Japanese honeysuckle and greenbrier through wooded back sections
- Kudzu on highway-adjacent banks and neglected parcels
- HOA common areas, buffers and detention basins in the newer developments
- Steep back banks that have gone years without maintenance
- Creek and branch buffers where spraying isn't appropriate
