Mount Airy & Surry County

Goatscaping in Mount Airy.

Our home county. Half an hour up the road, and the ground we know best.

Why grazing fits Mount Airy properties

Surry County is where we're based, and it shows in how we work here. Short haul, easy scheduling, and we know what the ground does through a season — which slopes hold moisture, where the kudzu comes back first, how quickly a cleared bank fills in again.

The county runs from river bottom to mountain foothill, and both ends of that produce their own problems. Bottomland and creek edges grow vine and brush faster than anywhere else on a property and are the worst places to spray. The higher ground gives you the slopes and rocky banks that equipment can't work.

There's a lot of older farmland here that's been let go or handed down, where a field edge or a barn lot has gone to brush over a few seasons. Grazing is usually the cheapest honest way to get that back — no machine hire, no fuel, no ruts through wet bottomland.

What we're usually called for here

  • Old field edges and barn lots gone to brush
  • Kudzu on road banks and creek bottoms
  • Overgrown fence lines on family land
  • Creek and river buffers where spraying is not appropriate
  • Steep and rocky ground above the valley floor

Getting an estimate

We come out and walk the property with you — the terrain, the access, what's actually growing and how established it is. You get a plan and a price on site, and an honest answer about whether grazing is the right tool for your particular piece of ground. Sometimes it isn't, and we'll say so.
